Abstract

This paper explores the intricate relationship between environmental education and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting the importance of integrating environmental education into the broader framework of sustainable development. Environmental education is recognized as a critical tool for fostering ecological literacy, empowering individuals to make informed decisions that contribute to the well-being of the planet. The SDGs, introduced by the United Nations in 2015, provide a universal set of goals aimed at addressing the world's most pressing challenges by 2030. This study examines how environmental education can be a driving force in achieving these goals, focusing on areas such as climate action, quality education, life on land, and life below water. It analyzes current trends in environmental education and identifies gaps in knowledge and practice that need to be addressed to ensure the effective alignment of educational initiatives with the SDGs. The paper argues for a holistic approach to environmental education that incorporates interdisciplinary learning, critical thinking, and participatory action, aiming to cultivate environmentally conscious citizens capable of contributing to a more sustainable future.
